FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Fresh off an SSC regular-season title, their first since 2017, the #11 Nova Southeastern Sharks now turn their focus to the postseason. Tonight, they'll host the rival Barry Buccaneers, the #8 seed, at home in the quarterfinal round of the SSC Tournament.
In the last matchup on October 8, the Sharks defeated Barry 6-0 at home. Genesis Hernandez had two goals and an assist in that game, and Sofia Suarez, Oliwia Loeman, Kajsa Lang and Liwa Nilsson also scored. Stina Roswall also recorded two assists in the contest.
The Buccaneers are coming off a 3-0 loss to Florida Tech to end the regular season. On the year, they've gone 5-4-9, with a 1-2-7 mark in SSC play. They're led offensively by Ronya Halleen, who has tallied three goals, three assists and nine points on the year.
For the Sharks, Hernandez and Suarez lead the offensive attack, as both players finished the regular season with 12 goals, five assists and 29 points apiece. Following behind them are sophomore Alexa Bereczki, the reigning SSC Freshman of the Year, and current freshman Oliwia Loeman, who have both tallied six goals, two assists and 14 points on the year. The Sharks have also been buoyed by the consistent play of Lova Korpas and Freya Jones.
Emilie Schroeder and Gretchen Duttenhofer have both been steady presences in net, and the Shark defense has held opponents to just eight total goals on the year. NSU closed the regular season with a 2-0 victory over Embry-Riddle, their fifth straight win, as they clinched the 2025 regular season title.
A brand new season starts now though, and the Sharks will take things one game at a time as they begin their journey towards an SSC Tournament Championship. Quarterfinal action kicks off tonight at the NSU Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium at 7pm. To stay up to date on the Sharks, be sure to follow on Instagram and Twitter/X at NSU_WSoccer.
